Heating · Furnace & heat pump

A furnace or heat pump sized to your house, not to the box it replaces

Austin winters rarely push a furnace hard. Furnace repair Austin TX calls still cluster into the one cold week in January, when everybody's system fails at once. We keep parts on the van for the common failures and we won't sell a heat pump installation Austin homes don't have the duct capacity to run.

  • 80% & 96% AFUE furnaces
  • Manual J load calc included
  • One system, heat and cool

Most furnace calls in Austin fall into two buckets: a unit that's fifteen-plus years old and finally quit mid-cycle, or a unit that was replaced two or three years ago and never worked right because it was matched to the old nameplate instead of the house. We check ignition, gas pressure, heat exchanger condition and blower static pressure before we say a furnace needs replacing rather than repairing. A cracked heat exchanger is a safety call. A dirty flame sensor is a Tuesday afternoon.

AFUE is the number that tells you how much of the gas you burn turns into heat in the house rather than going up the flue. An 80% AFUE furnace is standard-efficiency and vents through a metal flue; a 96% unit condenses the exhaust and needs a PVC vent run, which sometimes changes where it can physically go in a closet or attic. We spec both, and we'll tell you plainly when the 80% unit is the better call for your setup — a high-efficiency furnace crammed into a vent run that fights it isn't actually higher efficiency once it's installed wrong.

Gas Furnace Install & Swap

80% and 96% AFUE units matched to the ductwork you already have, or resized if the existing trunk line can't feed it properly. We pull a permit, verify gas line sizing, and check carbon monoxide venting before we call the job done — not after a callback.

Specification
Efficiency options80% AFUE standard vent, or 96% AFUE condensing with PVC venting
Sizing methodManual J load calc against square footage, insulation and window load
Typical durationOne day for a straight swap; add a day if the plenum needs rebuilding
IncludesPermit, gas line check, combustion test, thermostat wiring verification

Price basis: flat installed price after a load calc, from $3,400

Heat Pump Install

One outdoor unit covers both heat and cooling. Austin's winter is short and mild, which changes the math on sizing — a heat pump built for a Midwest heating load is oversized here and will short-cycle on cooling days most of the year. We size it against your actual square footage, not the manufacturer's nameplate on the unit it replaces.

Specification
CoverageHeating and cooling from one outdoor condenser and matched indoor coil
Sizing methodManual J load calc, weighted for Austin's short heating season
Typical durationOne to two days depending on electrical and refrigerant line changes
IncludesLine set, disconnect, refrigerant charge, and startup commissioning

Price basis: installed price after a Manual J load calc, from $5,200

What we won't do

We won't quote a furnace or heat pump swap over the phone from a model number alone, and we won't install a heat pump sized off the old system's tonnage without running our own numbers first. Nameplate matching is how a house ends up with a unit that short-cycles all spring and can't keep up in August. If the duct system can't support the load, that gets fixed first or the job doesn't go forward.
